As Hong Kong’s first real estate investment trust (REIT), Link has transformed from a Hong Kong-focused landlord two decades ago into one of Asia’s largest and most dynamic REITs today. In this lecture, George Hongchoy, the driving force behind Link’s remarkable growth, will share the story of this transformation—highlighting the strategies, milestones, and vision that shaped Link’s success. He will also offer his perspectives on the regional real estate market outlook and provide valuable insights into leadership and career development drawn from his own journey.
About the speaker:
Prof. George Hongchoy retired from the Group Chief Executive Officer of Link Asset Management Limited in 2025. Under his leadership, Link transitioned from a domestic player in Hong Kong to a regional leader of a diversified portfolio worth over HK$200 billion. He won many business awards, including Harvard Business Review’s 100 Best-Performing CEOs in the World in 2019, EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 China Award, DHL/SCMP Hong Kong Business Awards Business Person of the Year in 2015, and the Director of the Year Award by The Hong Kong Institute of Directors in 2011. Prof. Hongchoy is the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of Tracker Fund of Hong Kong, and the Honorary Founding President of Hong Kong REITS Association.
Prof. Hongchoy holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Canterbury and an MBA degree from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He is a Chartered Accountant in Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, and is a Chartered Surveyor. He also holds Senior Fellowships and memberships with the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute, The Hong Kong Institute of Directors, and the Institute of Shopping Centre Management. For public services, he is a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania, an Advisor to Our Hong Kong Foundation Limited, and a member of the Investment Subcommittee of The Community Chest of Hong Kong. Prof. Hongchoy is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Real Estate and Construction at The University of Hong Kong since 2022.
