About
HKU Real Estate Lab (RE Lab), established in 2022, is one of the research labs under Faculty of Architecture, University of Hong Kong. It aims to build a real estate intellectual community by bringing together leading scholars, researchers, and practitioners from different disciplines with a common interest in advancing real estate knowledge, enhancing professional practice, and debating policy issues. It is committed to making research ideas and findings accessible in order to provide thought leadership to the industry, the government, and the community at large. Its research areas include but are not limited to:

Professor Kelvin Wong
Professor, Department of Real Estate and Construction, HKU
He is the founder of the HKU Real Estate Lab. His research area is real estate economics and finance. He is one of the leading researchers named in the Real Estate Academic Leadership rankings. He co-invented the repeat-sales property price index in Hong Kong, which became the first tradable housing price index in Asia. More information about his work can be found on his website.

Ziwei Lin
PhD Student
Ziwei Lin is a PhD student in the Department of Real Estate & Construction at HKU. She has a multidisciplinary education background, with a strong foundation in Economics, Computer Science, and Urban Geography. Her current research interests include corporate finance, urban planning and climate change.
Bokai Yang
PhD Student
Bokai Yang is PhD student in the Department of Real Estate & Construction at HKU. He received a Bachler’s degree in Economics and Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Master’s degree in Economics from HKUST. He has also been rewarded with the Presidential Scholarship for PhD student. His current research interests include agglomeration economics, healthcare economics and business enabling environment.
Yue Zhang
PhD Student
Yue Zhang is PhD student in the Department of Real Estate & Construction at HKU. She is an awardee of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme and HKU Presidential PhD Scholarship. Her research interests include real estate finance and housing policy. She is keen on exploring the application of machine learning and unstructured data, including texts and images, in real estate research.
Yumou Wang
PhD Student
Yumou Wang is a PhD student in the Department of Real Estate & Construction at HKU. He received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Chongqing University. His current research interests include government behaviors, real estate investment trusts, real estate finance and economics.
Johnny Shen
PhD Student
Johnny Shen is a PhD student in the Department of Real Estate & Construction at HKU, under the supervision of Prof. Kelvin Wong. He has a background in business management, urban planning, property development, and private equity management. His research interests include the impact of Government Policies on property values, Science Park, and real estate management.
Ruiyang Wang
PhD Student
Ruiyang Wang is a PhD student in the Department of Real Estate & Construction at HKU. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Human Geography & Urban Planning from Zhejiang University and a Master’s degree in Real Estate from HKU. His research interests include real estate & urban economics, urban & regional planning, and housing & land policy.
